The book is dedicated to award, prize and gift cold arms of the Russian army of the 19th and early 20th centuries. In the everyday life of the military, award and prize weapons, on the one hand, were inextricably linked with the high combat qualities of the Russian army and were highly valued among the military, and on the other hand, they were an integral part of the appearance of officers, and in some cases, of lower ranks (cadets and non-commissioned officers).

Each of the four chapters of the book is dedicated to one type of weapon: St. George's, Anninsky (weapons with the badge of the Order of St. Anne, 4th class), prize weapons and weapons presented as gifts. Descriptions of the items are based on regulatory acts and archival documents. In addition to descriptions of the items, the book provides a number of biographies of those awarded weapons, which can be considered as a kind of generalized portraits of Russian officers of the 19th - early 20th centuries.

The illustrations include photographs of award, prize and gift weapons from private and museum collections, many of which are published for the first time. Of particular interest are photographs of a number of items of Russian bladed weapons stored in the funds of the Military Museum (Belgrade). Some of them are associated with the rulers of the Serbian state. Others came to the Balkans together with former servicemen of the Russian army, who after 1920 lived in exile in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (since 1929 – the Kingdom of Yugoslavia), and for a long time remained unknown to domestic collectors and historians. These exhibits have never been restored and now, with the exception of some losses, remain in a completely original form, which gives them special value in the eyes of specialists.
