Vladimir Alekseevich Gilyarovsky was a Russian writer, journalist, local historian, a legend of Moscow and its everyday life, author of the famous book "Moscow and Muscovites" (1934), which is undoubtedly the most colorful story ever told about this city. He was called "Uncle Gilyai" for his kindness and responsiveness, and "the king of reportage" for his talent as a journalist. In his articles, sketches and memoirs Gilyarovsky captured the everyday life of Russia in the second half of the XIX - early XX century: thanks to these invaluable eyewitness accounts, the memory of the past of Moscow, the Moscow suburbs and the Russian provinces has been preserved. The present volume, in addition to "Moscow and Muscovites", includes the books "My Wanderings" (1928), "Friends and Meetings" (1934), "People of the Theater" (1941), in which the author fascinatingly and vividly told about his experiences - the joys, sorrows, trials and meetings.
