The fate of Russia in the second half of the XV-XVII centuries mixed in equal proportions earth and sky, high and low, the drawing of a scholarly clerk, accurately conveying the lines of rivers, lakes, forests in the newly explored lands and the life of a holy monk, the first to settle there. Looking at the map, it is easy to see that even in the middle of the XV century Moscow Russia was a small, poor, sparsely populated country. But by the beginning of the XVI century it had grown into a great power, and at the turn of the XVI and XVII centuries it turned into a giant state. It was the geographical environment of the indigenous "European" Russia contributed to the fact that in the XVI-XVII centuries, the Russian North, the Urals and Siberia were colonized extremely quickly. But the matter is not only in geography. The structure of the Moscow kingdom was built on the rock of faith, permeated with Orthodoxy in all directions. The fact that it was filled for a long time with the self-perception of the New Israel, the Third Rome, the Appointment of the Most Pure One, gave it a mobilizing purpose and meaning of existence.
