Konstantin Mikhailovich Stanyukovich (1843-1903), a hereditary sailor, the son of an admiral, left service in the navy and retired with the rank of lieutenant in order to become a writer. But the sea did not let him go - the pinnacle of Stanyukovich's literary work is rightfully considered to be "Sea Stories", in which the author achieved complete control over the material. A thorough knowledge of maritime affairs and a family connection with the sailor community allowed him to create a number of brilliant works about the life of the navy, which have been read by new and new generations of readers for more than a hundred years.
