Vladimir Odoevsky knew philosophy, mathematics, physics, chemistry, wrote music, invented musical instruments, collected and studied Russian folk songs. He also wrote wonderful stories and stories for children.

The fairy tale “Moroz Ivanovich” is rightfully considered one of the best works of V. Odoevsky. Despite the fact that the fairy tale was created almost 200 years ago, it is still loved by young readers. According to the plot and characters, this is a variation on the theme of the Russian folk tale Morozko.

In the same house lived two girls – the Handmaker and the Sloth. The handler was an intelligent girl: she got up early, immediately started working: the stove was melted, the dough kneaded, the chalk hut, the rooster fed, she went to the well for water. And the sloth was in bed, stretching. He gets up, jumps, and sits at the window of the flies to count: how many flew and how many flew away. She knitted stockings, and cut and sewed shirts, and handmade songs sang. In search of a bucket that fell into the well, the Handmaker fell into the possession of Moroz Ivanovich. For three days she skillfully and conscientiously coped with his household, for which she received a worthy award. The sloth envied the success of the Handmaker and went to Moroz Ivanovich the same difficult way - through the well. But she did not know how to do anything, and her temper was not such as to help others. Therefore, the reward received by Lenivice turned out to be a piece of ice, which the girl mistook for a bar of silver. What the job is, that's the reward.

The fairy tale is also good because, in addition to a fascinating, to the extent of edifying plot, it gives the concepts of the change of seasons, the idea of peasant labor, the attention to the poor, especially on frosty winter days. And the process of cleaning water Handler is so informative that it can be successfully reproduced at home.

The book is perfectly illustrated by the master of Soviet children's illustration Vladimir Konashevich.
