The four-volume monograph "The Jesus Prayer. The experience of two millennia" is a fundamental research work, which is part of Nikolai Novikov's publishing project "The Way of Intelligent Work". The work is devoted to the study of various aspects of prayer practice in the Orthodox tradition, and contains an analytical review of the holy theological heritage and writings of the ascetics of piety. The first two volumes are devoted to issues of a more general nature, here are collected the instructions and reflections of pastors and ascetics, preserved by the Tradition from ancient times, and at the same time provide an opportunity to compare them with the teachings of the fathers of our time. The third and fourth volumes concretize and develop topics directly related to the practice of prayer. The books deal with such issues as the doctrine of Hesychasm on the inner feat of holy silence, the regularities of spiritual development, and the principles of guidance by the holy Fathers' writings. Particular importance is given to the problem of the transition from verbal prayer to heart-mind prayer, as well as to the methods of attention control and mind-heart connection. The art of sobriety and inner struggle, the techniques of artistic prayer, and many other relevant topics related to the prayer life are discussed.
