According to many critics and fans of English writer Daphne du Maurier (1907–1989), My Cousin Rachel is equal to, and in some ways superior to, the celebrated Rebecca. A detective story combines with an unusual love drama, set against the enchanting landscapes of Cornwall and picturesque scenes of mid-19th-century Italy.

The main character, the enigmatic and inscrutable Rachel, is one of the most memorable characters in English literature. With each twist, the reader becomes increasingly confused as to whether she is the victim of unjust suspicion or a calculating schemer and murderer...

The novel was published in 1951 and instantly became a bestseller. Just a year later, a film of the same name was released, starring Olivia de Havilland and a young Richard Burton. The novel was later adapted into a television series. In 2017, a new film adaptation was released, with the leading roles played by the magnificent Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin.
