Bruno Bear in the Forest continues the series of informative picture books created by the famous Swedish writer and illustrator Gunilla Ingves. The book includes two stories: "Bruno Bear and the Ants" and "Bruno Bear, Akke the Frog and the Little Pond Dwellers". In the first story, Bruno Bear walks through the forest where he meets Eric the ant, who invites Bruno Bear to visit his home in the anthill. The inquisitive teddy bear can make himself small when he wants to. How? That's his secret! After becoming the size of an ant, the bear dives into one of the anthill's passages and learns how the large ant community lives. Then his friend Lolla the dog comes and together they go to see how the ants herd aphids and extract sweet syrup. The teddy bear then carefully records his observations in his diary. Bear's notes and drawings take up four pages: an anthill in section, ants' "professions", ants' food, their friends and enemies, and other interesting information about ants' life. In the second story, Bruno the bear goes to a pond and meets Akke the tadpole, who teaches the bear how to swim and dive. At the bottom of the pond, the friends help a maggot to fix its house and barely get away from a huge dragonfly larva. Suddenly the bear notices that Akke has lost his tail and has turned into a frog. In the evening, they sit on a lily leaf and see the dragonfly larva emerge from the water and shed its shell. In the morning, the dragonfly spreads its wings and soars into the air. The observant bear writes down everything he has seen and learned during this walk in his diary. Four pages are filled with his notes and drawings: Akke's life cycle from egg to adult frog, enemies of frogs, as well as insects and other creatures he saw on the pond. With gentle illustrations, lots of details to look at on every page, and charming characters, the Bruno Bear books teach children ages 3-6 to love nature.
