Mine cruisers had a wide range of applications and remained formidable, although not fast enough destroyers of destroyers, useful ships for protection and patrols. In addition, they were in demand in a new role for them minesweepers, messenger ships, and then hunters for submarines. Optimality of size and design type, undoubted reserves for modernization provided Russian mine cruisers with long life. They withstood both ocean passages and Mediterranean cruises ("Posadnik" in 1896-1898 and "Abrek" in 1901-1903); and storms of the Baltic and the Black Sea.
For a wide range of readers interested in military history.
