A traditional liturgical book. It contains the services for the movable and fixed memorials of the annual liturgical cycle, with prayers to specific saints: prophets, apostles, hierarchs, venerable ones, and others. In addition, the book contains general services for the feasts of the Lord, the Theotokos, the Cross, the Angels, John the Baptist, and the Councils of the Holy Fathers, the Sunday service of the 6th tone, and the general service "on all days," the service for Easter Sunday, the Menologion, and general paroemia, apostolic, and Gospel readings.
The General Menaion has a dual use. First, it is necessary when a service is required for a saint for whom the Menaion either has no service at all, or for whom one is included but does not contain all the prayers required to be sung during the service, such as for a church saint. Secondly, where the service takes place only on holidays and it is not possible to have the entire body of liturgical books, the General Menaion compensates for this deficiency and, mainly, replaces the Monthly Menaion.
