Alexander Khort's book is devoted to the life and work of Mikhail Ilyich Romm, a famous director, public figure, and professor at the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography. A peer of the century, Romm was a participant of such important events of the Soviet era as the Revolution, the Civil War, the Five-Year Plan, the Great Terror, the Great Patriotic War, the struggle for peace, the Thaw. Mikhail Ilyich was always at the forefront: he worked in the State Directorate for Film Production, was one of the initiators of the USSR Union of Cinematographers, headed creative associations at Mosfilm, and taught at VGIK.
As a director he made 14 films - 12 feature films and two documentaries. All of them entered the golden fund of Soviet cinema.
