The book by the famous St. Petersburg art critic Anton Uspensky is dedicated to Russian art of the 1920s and 1930s, which refused to be socially in demand and therefore fell into the zone of silence for a long time. The artists, who were very different in style and creative preferences, were united by the fact that they were all focused on solving plastic and pictorial problems. Their art, which the author calls "non-polar", did not fit into the framework of the two main artistic phenomena of that period - avant-garde and socialist realism. With his book, A. Uspensky restores the stylistic link in the history of Russian pre-war art and returns undeservedly forgotten names to readers. The book reproduces rare works of artists little known to a wide circle of art lovers. The publication is addressed to art historians, cultural scientists, collectors, as well as everyone interested in the history of painting of the Soviet period.
