Harvey Weinstein has long been surrounded by rumors of inappropriate behavior and harassment against women. Journalists have repeatedly attempted to investigate this story, but each time they have failed—Weinstein's name is firmly associated with power and authority in the film industry. In 2017, journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey took up the investigation again. After confidential interviews with prominent actresses, former Weinstein employees, and other sources, they uncovered cases of systematic harassment, as well as the enormous sums paid to Weinstein's victims to silence them.
For months, Weinstein sought to obstruct the investigation, hiring lawyers and spies to sabotage the journalists' work. The dramatic standoff between the producer and the newspaper culminated in the publication of the now-famous New York Times article, which exploded and subsequently won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize. Instantly becoming a classic of investigative journalism, this book, in a detective style, tells not only the story of the investigation and its implications for the #MeToo movement, but also the inspiring stories of the women who dared to speak out about their traumatic experiences—for the sake of other women, for future generations, and for themselves.
