This book by an American legal scholar is devoted to Socratic dialog, one of the most effective and proven tools of good reasoning left to us by ancient philosophy. The author's interpretation contrasts Socrates' method with the thoughtless and superficial categorical judgments stimulated by modern Internet communication. "If I had to express in one word the antithesis of the Socratic method, I would use the word 'Twitter,'" writes Ward Farnsworth. At the center of his critique is the inability of modern man, and all over the world, to think critically and independently, questioning evaluations and opinions sanctified by tradition, supported by habit, or imposed by authority. It is this inability to think in the Socratic manner that the book depicts as the underlying cause of "the whole rampage of ignorance and hypocrisy that characterizes the current political discourse.
