"He had a marvelous gift of song and a voice like the sound of water" - so wrote Pushkin about Publius Ovidius Nazon, the great poet of the "golden age" of Roman literature. Ovid's main work "Metamorphoses", written with the inherent elegance of the poet's syllable, is a kind of mythological encyclopedia of classical antiquity. Composed of individual stories about transformations (metamorphoses proper), it contains an infinite number of mythological characters, historical realities, heroism, passions, pathetics, fantasies, whimsy, playfulness, witty moves, irony. Later, this rich collection of mythological stories, skillfully united in one book, more than once became a source of inspiration for artists and poets, and therefore Ovid's "Metamorphoses" rightfully belong to the works from which "grew" a significant part of world literature.
