"Martin Eden" was written by Jack London during a voyage on his own schooner "Snark" across the Pacific Ocean in 1907-1908.

Largely autobiographical, this novel tells the story of the difficult fate of a young man from the lower classes.

The story of the main character is interwoven with facts from the writer's own life: sailing on a ship as a sailor, working as an ironer in a laundry, meeting a girl from an intelligent family, as well as sleepless nights over manuscripts and books.

The illustrations were created by the Belarusian artist Ekaterina Babok especially for our publication.
