"Body and Soul." This is the name of a jazz standard tune that Peter Grant - a London constable and apprentice magician - hears while examining the corpse of saxophonist Cyres Wilkins. He died at the 606 Club in Soho, where he was moonlighting in a jazz band. The music coming from his body clearly points to a supernatural death.
Peter will have to risk his own body and soul to investigate the case. Peter will be helped by two people: Thomas Nightingale, his immediate superior and the last known wizard in England, and the beautiful jazz aficionado Simone Fitzwilliam. And Peter will have to remember the fate of his father, the talented jazz trumpeter Richard "Damn" Grant.
