A reissue of one of the greatest works of the 20th century, included in Time magazine's list of the 100 best novels. The reprint is edited by Andrei Babikov, an expert of the Nabokov Foundation, with the correction of noted typos and the preservation of some of Nabokov's spelling, transliteration and punctuation. Nabokov finished "Lolita" in 1954, by which time he had already lived in the United States for four years. But the book saw the light of day in France, in the publishing house "Olympia Press", specializing in the release of erotic and avant-garde literature: no American publishing house did not dare to print a scandalous text, fearing prosecution. And this is not surprising: in his great work Nabokov plunges into the dark depths of human consciousness and for the first time in world fiction so detailed and thoroughly explores the theme of pedophilia and the psychology of the pedophile. But "Lolita" is much more than the story of passion thirty-seven-year-old teacher of French literature Humbert Humbert to twelve-year-old stepdaughter Dolores. It is a complex and multifaceted work that plays with a range of genres popular in America, from road movie and erotica to detective, thriller, and confessional novel.
