The monograph is divided into two parts. Part I contains a sketch of the life and philosophy (logos) of Heraclitus of Ephesus (c. 540-c. 480 B.C.), as well as an analysis of his metaphorical language, without understanding of which the way to Heraclitus' philosophical thought is closed. The main conclusion: Heraclitus was not a "pre-Socratic" physicalist, but an ethical-political and theological thinker of the reformist type; his treatise in many respects anticipates the problems of Plato's "State", and in ethics and philosophy of nature contains all the main provisions of Stoicism. Part II is a new critical edition of the Greek text (logos) of the extant fragments of Heraclitus with Russian translation and commentary. This edition differs from the previous ones not only in the new edition of the Greek text, but also in the composition and arrangement of the fragments, seeking, if possible, to reconstruct in general terms the original text and structure of Heraclitus' lost treatise On Nature.
