What laws govern our thinking? How does common sense differ from logic? What is a "logical square"? How to distinguish direct evidence from indirect evidence? These and many other questions will be answered by logic - the science of forms and laws of correct thinking, the founder of which is the ancient Greek scientist Aristotle. This discipline helps to establish the truth, to keep the clarity of mind and orderliness of thinking, to avoid errors and traps of the mind. Before you is a textbook of logic under the authorship of psychologist and philosopher G.I. Chelpanov. It was awarded the Emperor Peter the Great Prize and before the revolution it had endured many editions. In 1946 the book was published in the USSR, but in an abridged version. The present text is printed from the most recent complete 9th edition of 1918 in modern orthography. The edition contains visual schemes and tables, as well as questions to consolidate the material at the end of each chapter. The book will be useful not only for students and teachers, but also for anyone who perceives information critically and seeks to draw conclusions independently.
