What is known about Lucien Bonaparte is mainly that he played a decisive role in the coup that brought his brother, Napoleon, to power and enabled him to become the most powerful man in Europe at the time. However, we know undeservedly little about the story of Lucien's life and selfless love for the woman whose alliance with Napoleon for many years gave Napoleon no rest. The story of love and power told in this book is largely based on Lucien's Memoirs, found by the author-historians in the archives of Paris and the family archives of the Italian branch of the Bonapartes, whose descendants still live in their mansion near Perugia. It was there that Countess Albaliza Faina Roncalli welcomed Marcello Simonetta and Noga Ariha and provided them with dusty folders with missing unpublished fragments not included in the book of Lucien's memoirs published in the nineteenth century. It was thanks to these materials, which had never been studied before, that it was possible to piece together the puzzle of Lucien's fate, his love story and his relationship with his family and the authorities.
