Jack London grew up poor and matured early. During the economic crisis, he dropped out of school to support his family. While still a teenager, he worked in a cannery, bought his own ship, became a poacher—the "king of the oyster pirates"—and later, a sailor on a seal-hunting schooner. But throughout all these years, his thirst for knowledge and ardent love of books never waned. In 1893, returning from a voyage, seventeen-year-old Jack published his first essay, "Typhoon Off the Coast of Japan." Thus began the illustrious career of one of the most renowned classics of American literature.

This collection is published with illustrations by Honored Artist of Russia Anatoly Itkin. In 2024, Anatoly Itkin was awarded the National Prize in Children's and Youthful Literature in the category "For Contribution to the Development of Children's Literature."
