Not only Russian fairy tales, but also foreign ones were in the center of attention of the masters of Russian book graphics of the XIX - early XX century. It turns out that the brilliant Ivan Bilibin illustrated G.-H. Andersen and the stories of Scheherazade. And the virtuoso Boris Zworykin turned the German "Nerja Peter" into the Russian "Stepka Rastrepka" - one of the most published children's books in Russia until 1917. Meanwhile, a whole gallery of fairy-tale images of characters from Russian folk tales (more than thirty!) was created by Anatoly Neruchev, one of the most talented illustrators of Ivan Sytin's and Joseph Knebel's book publishing houses. ...These and other books have long been collector's rarities and classics, and our edition makes it possible to appreciate their undeniable merits. Most of the illustrations presented in it are back for the first time in a century.
