Battleships of the Royal Sovereign type are considered to be the most “unsuccessful” battleships of the Royal Navy. Among shipbuilding historians, it is a good to denounce these ships for their slowness and unsuccessful modernization. However, the experience of the Second World War showed that “paper” characteristics, very important for reference books, have a very remote relation to reality. So, it was the shells of the “obsolete” battleship “Resolution” during the famous operation “Catapult” destroyed the French battleship “Bretany”. In total, five Sovereigns descended from the stocks: HMS Royal Sovereign, HMS Revenge, HMS Royal Oak, HMS Resolution and HMS Ramillies. Royal Oak became famous as the first British battleship that died during World War II (during the legendary attack in Scapa Flow Bay, it was sunk by the submarine U-47 Gunther Prin), and the Royal Sovereign, by the will of high policy, became part of our Northern Fleet, receiving a new name - Arkhangelsk.
The new book of the famous historian of the Royal Navy for the first time in Russian literature in all details tells about the history of the creation, construction, service and combat use of battleships of the Royal Sovereign type. The publication is illustrated with many drawings and photographs.
