The book offered to the reader will tell about the heroic ships of the German fleet of the First World War - the large cruisers "Von der Tann" and "Seydlitz", which endured all the hardships of campaigns and battles with the English fleet and emerged victorious in the famous Battle of Jutland. These cruisers, according to the idea of German shipbuilders, were not only supposed to withstand the English battlecruisers, but also, if necessary, "take a hit" from the English battleships. In the line of large cruisers, the gap between the classic piston "Blücher" and the turbine "Von der Tann" is enormous. Increased by a third, including in relation to the main caliber - from 210 to battleship 280 mm, - and with armor comparable to battleships, the Von der Tann turned out to be the fastest cruiser in the world, developing, thanks to a steam turbine four-shaft installation, 28.1 knots. Starting with the next type of "Moltke", the armor indicators were sharpened, while maintaining the found 10-gun 280 mm standard and further increasing the speed. All this allowed the engineers to develop a project for the famous "Seydlitz", with a displacement that had grown by a third now compared to the "Von der Tann". During trials, it crossed the 29-knot threshold. 22 shells with a caliber of 12 to 15 dm were not enough to sink the valiant "Seydlitz", but the English cruiser "Queen Mary" needed only 36 minutes of battle with it...
