These battleships were built to gain dominance in the Mediterranean Sea. They went down in the history of shipbuilding and the navy under two names: the Vittorio Veneto-class battleships and the Littorio-class battleships. The lead ship of the series was the Vittorio Veneto, which was the first to raise the naval flag. But Italy was a fascist country at the time, so the lead ship was a battleship with a party name. These ships did not live up to the expectations placed on them. There are many reasons for this. From simple bad luck to an unwillingness to risk such valuable ships. But, nevertheless, they will remain masterpieces of shipbuilding, and no book on the history of World War II in the Mediterranean theater of military operations can do without mentioning them.
