Gulia, the village pigeon, soared freely in the blue sky, breathed clean air, ate plenty of food, and had no intention of changing anything in his life, until a storm threw a perky sparrow into his barn. Chiv, the name of his new acquaintance, did not understand how one could live in the village. He praised the delights of city life so much that Gulia decided to go with him to Megapolis. But nothing good came out of it. In the city Gulia learned that you have to fight for food and the best piece always goes to the one who is stronger. He was nearly killed by a wrecking crane, and he almost ended up with a cat for dinner. He was brought home on an old wire hanger by seven sparrows. They took out the sick pigeon, and so stayed to live in his haggard barn, in the middle of fields and meadows, where there are no enemies, and the food itself jumps into the beak. This fairy tale was written and drawn by Bill Peet (1915-2002), a famous American artist, screenwriter and writer, whose books have been published in different languages of the world for more than half a century.
