The monograph tells about the icebreaker "Krasin" during the Great Patriotic War, about the plans of pre-war modernization, about the famous round-the-world voyage of the ship, during which the icebreaker visited the USA, took part in the transatlantic convoy NH-178 and polar convoy PQ-15. Some previously classified stories of the history of "Krasin" will be revealed to the readers for the first time. The book is based on a large array of domestic publications on the history of the icebreaker "Krasin", polar convoys, maritime operations on the Northern Sea Route, as well as previously unknown documentary sources. The book is illustrated with materials from the funds and scientific archive of the World Ocean Museum, the branch of the World Ocean Museum in St. Petersburg "Icebreaker "Krasin". Previously little-known memoirs of the senior mechanic P. P. Chukur and transcripts of voyage reports of the icebreaker captain M. G. Markov for the period from July 1942 to February 1945 are published. The book is designed for specialists-historians, as well as a wide range of readers interested in the history of naval operations of the Great Patriotic War.
