"The Complete Collection of Historical Notes of Dai Viet" is the central monument of traditional historical thought in Vietnam (translated into Russian and published in eight volumes in 2002–2022). The text of this state chronicle is brought up to 1675. The continuation - new chapters describing events up to 1740 - were printed in the 18th century, but by imperial decree in the 19th century the woodblock prints were confiscated and destroyed as unacceptable to the ruling dynasty. Only lengthy quotations or reworked fragments of these chapters have survived in unofficial historical works and chronicles. This edition is an attempt to reconstruct the text of the continuation by critical selection from all surviving versions.

Volume 1 includes chapters I–III of this reconstruction: the recreated text in the original language, the translation of the text with scientific commentary and appendices. The chapters describe the events that took place in 1672–1729, during the reign of the Later Le Dynasty, when important socio-economic reforms were taking place in the country. The appendix includes translations from the Chinese chronicle Qing shi lu, a description of Vietnam (Annam) compiled in the 18th century and added to the Chinese collection Wen xian tong cao, as well as chapters from the chronicle of the noble Vietnamese Dang clan related to the described period.

Volume 2 includes chapters IVVI of the reconstructed text and translation, describing the events of 1730–1740, which took place during the reign of the Later Le Dynasty. Two introductory articles are devoted to the analysis of these events. The Appendix includes translations from the Chinese chronicle Qing shi lu concerning Vietnamese-Chinese relations during that period, descriptions of Vietnam (Annam) from the Chinese encyclopedia of the 18th century. Huang Chao Tong Dian and the works of the Qing author Wang Shizhen Chi Bei Ou Tan, as well as the 6th chapter of the chronicle of the noble Vietnamese Dang clan.
