A poignant novel about the love of a white girl and an Innu Indian, about the life of a large family against the backdrop of historical change.
Like all children of Canadian settlers, Almanda was taught to hold on to her land and work in the fields. But on the shores of a lake, she met an Indian who came by canoe, and the free nomadic life beckoned to her. The family's life in the forest was incredibly happy, but the idyll was short-lived: progress came to the Indian lands and began to take away everything dear to Almanda one by one. Bitter, but at the same time filled with intimate intonations and the light of memory is a novel about those who for a long time preferred not to be noticed. The book is based on the life story of Kukum, i.e. the writer's grandmother.
