The mid-1980s. Yoon Wechul, a police university student, studies the works of Western sociologists and criminologists and realizes that South Korea will soon be hit by an epidemic of serial murders similar to what happened in the United States. Later, he is impressed by legendary FBI profiler John Douglas's book "Mindhunter," which describes the capture of maniacs using methods unknown in Korea - and further reinforces his thoughts about the coming murder epidemic... After becoming a police inspector, he dreams of creating profiling and for this purpose he hires promising investigator Kwon Ireon, the future author of this book.
By the early 2000s, Yoon Wechul's predictions come true - serial killers begin to appear in Korea. Kwon Iryong not only has to learn how to profile a completely unknown type of criminals, based on Douglas' book, but also to advocate the need to implement innovative methods of investigation. "Who Reads the Heart of Darkness" is a real-life (and from that even more poignant) story about the difficult journey of South Korea's first profiler team and its hunt for the country's infamous serial killers.
