Henryk Sienkiewicz, a classic of Polish literature and honorary academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, was a brilliant historical novelist. Like Hugo, Dumas, Tolstoy, he was able to describe the great events of bygone eras, paying attention to the personality of the man - the creator of these events. In 1905 Sienkiewicz was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature with the wording "For outstanding services in the field of epic".
One of the best works of the writer, the result of his many years of labor was the novel "Crusaders" about the brutal confrontation between Poles and crusaders and romantic love of a young Polish beauty and her brave knight. The book is illustrated with drawings by the famous Czech artist Wenceslaus Czerny (1865-1936). Remarkable illustrations reflecting the diverse, richly detailed world of the "Crusaders" are published in Russia for the first time.
