The construction of the armored cruiser Rurik in Russia and the design of Rurik No. 2 brought the English lords to a state close to paranoia, thereby forcing them to immediately begin designing first-class cruisers in response, not inferior in speed and armament to the Russian Rurik. Instead of another 7,500-ton "Edgars", the same, but twice as large "Edgars" were laid down, which received the names "Powerful" and "Terrible". Although the giant 164-meter cruisers were eventually able to develop the required speed, in compensation for this they received symbolic armament and, according to the English tradition of that time, were deprived of side armor! Expensive to build and expensive to maintain, with excessive coal consumption and an unreasonably inflated crew, and all this just for the sake of two additional 6-inch guns! Despite the fact that the "Powerfuls" did not have time to die ingloriously in the First World War, having finished their active service before it began, the British still did not have any grateful reviews about them. This book is about the pride of British shipbuilding at the end of the 19th century - the cruisers "Powerful" and "Terrible".
