The global popularity of the silent film star Felix the Cat came in the mid-1920s, when cartoons about the unusual cat were watched all over the world. Images of Felix, whose name means "luck", were used as a talisman in sports and aviation. There is even a legend that Charles Lindbergh took a Felix toy on board an airplane during his transatlantic flight. And although the legend has long been disproved, its existence does not leave any doubt about the popularity of the character.
True, by the mid-30s, interest in Felix gradually faded, and new adventures came out only in comics.
Until in the late 50s, Joseph Oriolo gave Felix a magic suitcase in a new cartoon series, which was broadcast in Russian translation in the 90s. This anthology contains stories about Felix the Cat by artist Otto Messmer, published by Dell Publishing and Toby Press from 1948 to 1951.
