The story “Kortik” was published in 1948 and became one of the most popular children’s works of the mid-twentieth century. It was twice filmed and translated into many languages. “Kortik” opened the “Arbat” trilogy about Misha Polyakov and his friends, which was continued by “Bronze Bird” and “Shot”. And even though in all these stories Rybakov gives a picture of his Soviet childhood, the adventures of three friends resonate in the hearts of readers to this day.
Who would have thought that an ordinary summer with grandparents could turn into a real investigation? Misha Polyakov is not a simple schoolboy from Moscow. The red commander of the Poleva, who visited his grandmother, gives the boy an antique dart. A cipher is applied to the rod embedded in the crust, and the key to the cipher is hidden in sheaths, in search of which the boys are launched. After solving the message, they will receive instructions about the location of the cache, but the guys do not yet know that real dangers await them on the way to the cherished goal. . .
