"Queen Margot" - one of the most famous novels of Alexandre Dumas, it is as read and loved around the world as "The Three Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Cristo". The action of the novel takes place at the end of the XVI century, at the time of religious wars between Protestants (Huguenots) and Catholics. For the sake of restoring peace, the French princess, Catholic Marguerite de Valois is given in marriage to Henry of Navarre, the leader of the Huguenots, despite her love affair with the Duke of Guise. Further events unfold rapidly, as is typical of Alexandre Dumas's books: thrilling adventures, palace intrigue, love dramas, and the bloody massacre of Bartholomew's Night, perhaps the most stirring description of this fateful event in all of world literature. This edition reproduces the complete set of illustrations for Queen Margot by the outstanding Czech artist Stanislav Gudeček (1872-1947).
