Pyotr Ershov wrote The Humpbacked Horse while still a student at the Imperial St. Petersburg University, at the age of 19. His first readers and judges of his work were Vasily Zhukovsky and Alexander Pushkin. The latter, by the way, praised Ershov's fairy tale. After graduating from the university, Peter was forced to return to his homeland, to Siberia, where he entered the service and could engage in literature only intermittently. Later he wrote other poems, stories and plays, but it was the fairy tale "The Humpbacked Horse", which absorbed folk wisdom, that became Yershov's most famous work and one of the pearls of Russian literature. If Ivan, the protagonist of this fairy tale, had listened to the advice of his faithful friend, the Humpbacked Horse, no misfortune would have befallen him. But the Little Horse warned him that the feather of the Firebird would bring Ivan "a lot of trouble" and he should not take it. But our Vanyusha did everything in his own way, and soon troubles fell on him one after another. Will Ivan be able to fulfill all the orders of the greedy tsar: to get the Firebird and the Tsar Maiden, to find the cherished ring at the bottom of the sea and to bathe in boiling water? And the main thing - will he stop being willful, will he appreciate the advice of good friends? A fairy tale is a lie, but there's a hint in it, a lesson to good young men.
