A book about the techniques and skills of rational reading, the psychological basis of perception and assimilation of the text. One of the first and, probably, the best and most accessible to the widest reader, manuals on methods of reading. The author S. I. Povarnin in his preface to the first edition (1924) called this book "a brief introduction to the art of reading". The Soviet Marxist philosopher Sergei Innokentyevich Povarnin is known to Russian readers for his popular brochure "The Art of Argument. On the Theory and Practice of Argument." The present brochure "How to Read Books" is another edition of S. I. Povarnin, written for the general reader. In the Stalinist USSR, this brochure was widely distributed and repeatedly reprinted.
