A book about the techniques and skills of rational reading, the psychological foundations of perception and assimilation of text. One of the first and probably the best and most accessible to the general reader, manuals on reading methods. The author S. I. Povarnin in his preface to the first edition (1924) called this book "a brief introduction to the art of reading". Soviet Marxist philosopher Sergei Innokentievich Povarnin is known for his popular brochure "The Art of Debate. On the Theory and Practice of Debate". This brochure "How to Read Books" is another publication by S. I. Povarnin, written for the general reader. In Stalin's USSR, this brochure was widely distributed and was reprinted many times.
