This book is a reprint of the well-known and very popular at the time book by the Soviet philosopher-logician, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Sergei Innokentievich Povarnin "The Art of Debate. On the Theory and Practice of Debate", published by the publishing house "Beginnings of Knowledge" in Petrograd in 1923. Despite its considerable age, the book is extremely useful for the modern Russian reader interested in the socio-political life of the country and the world and often participating (in everyday life or on the Internet) in a variety of discussions.
The book, in a very accessible, popular language, although using examples of the reality of that time, tells about the rules and techniques of debate, gives the basic concepts and principles of logic (correct thinking), allowing, if mastered, to win over your interlocutors. A significant part of the book is devoted to tricks in debate, which are now actively used by opponents in cases where they do not have the opportunity to support their position with well-founded arguments. Moreover, the author not only classifies the types of tricks in a dispute - ordinary tricks, sophisms, false and arbitrary arguments, imaginary evidence, etc., but also indicates measures against these tricks that allow them to be neutralized and the dispute to be resolved in one's favor.
