Georgi Dionisovich Kostaki was an outstanding collector of the twentieth century. In his autobiographical notes he describes his childhood and youth, the special patriarchal way of life of a Greek family in Moscow, the years of revolution, the NEP era and the dramatic 1930s. His enthusiasm for collecting icons, paintings of the "small" Dutch and porcelain was soon replaced by a real passion and a special kind of research activity aimed at studying and collecting works by artists of the Russian avant-garde - M. Chagall, V. Kandinsky, N. Goncharova, M. Larionov, V. Tatlin, I. Kudryashov, A. Rodchenko, I. Puni. Gradually his collection turned into a unique museum of the Russian avant-garde. The book is intended for a wide range of readers.
