On the eve of 1914, the Yusupov princes topped a list of about one hundred of the most noble and wealthy members of the Russian aristocracy. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the economic and social situation of this small but politically and culturally influential layer of the largest landowners in the last decades of the Russian Empire. The book describes the problems of adaptation of the economy of the Russian landowning aristocracy in the conditions of capitalist modernization in the period 1890-1914, the development of urban and rural estate complexes. The author considers educational and professional preferences, as well as some aspects of everyday life and social psychology of the nobility elite. The author pays special attention to the role of the aristocracy in court life under the last Russian monarch, and to the relationship between the Yusupovs and members of the imperial family. A wide range of sources was used in the preparation of the book, including unpublished archival materials, first introduced into the scientific turnover. For historians, humanities specialists and all those interested in the history and culture of Russia.
