A unique book by the American journalist, sailor and artist Clifford Warren Ashley (1881-1947) contains descriptions of more than three thousand knots and knotted rope fastenings, as well as corresponding diagrams and drawings showing what these knots look like and how to tie them. Ashley's book consists of forty-one thematic chapters and an alphabetical index of all the knots described in it. It was first published in 1944 and since then has attracted the constant interest of not only sailors, but also ordinary people with its simplicity and clarity of presentation, clear classification and wonderful author's illustrations. The translation of "The Ashley Book of Knots" into Russian is published for the first time.
