The book by Marco Polo (c. 1254-1324), one of the most famous travelers in the history of mankind, was published in the early XIV century. In it, an observant and practical Venetian shared with his contemporaries his own observations about the mores, government institutions and life in China, a country virtually unknown in Europe at the time, where Marco Polo spent 15 years in the service of the famous khan Khubilai. From this book, many Europeans learned for the first time about the countries of the East, their natural riches and technical achievements - paper money, the printing board, the saga palm, the compass and the bill of exchange, as well as about coal and the location of the coveted spices. Written in vivid and clear language, Marco Polo's "Book" became a desk book for many of the outstanding travelers of the Age of Great Discovery. It was she who inspired Christopher Columbus to discover America. In the end, the search for ways to acquire spices bypassing the Arab trade monopoly led to the redivision of the world and the disappearance of many white spots on the map, and the book of Marco Polo's travels became one of the few publications that influenced the course of world history. The edition is richly illustrated and designed for all those who are interested in overseas exotica, but at the same time requires authenticity: Marco Polo's stories, for all their improbability, are not a fairy tale, but a true story.
