The book is one of the earliest attempts at a generalized view of the extremely variegated history of Latin Romance. William Miller, undoubtedly in line with the historiographical standards of his era, created a rather subjective history of Frankish Greece, whose in situ acquaintance with the landscapes and relics was not only a guarantee of the truthfulness of the historical narrative, but also an expression of a personal, very deep attachment to the Balkans and the Mediterranean. The book was conceived as a large-scale illustration of the thesis of the importance of the medieval period in the formation of the national identity of the Greeks, this text gained wide popularity and up to the second half of the XX century remained in great demand by various categories of readers. We hope that it will be of interest to the domestic audience not only because of its former popularity, but also because of the integral vision of the topic, multiplied by the author's outstanding writing talent.
