Paul Gustave Doré, one of the greatest engravers of the nineteenth century, who illustrated many works, from the Bible to Charles Perot's fairy tales. He was considered an outstanding representative of European art, making an unrivaled contribution to the treasury of world graphics.
Having created engravings for "Gargantua and Pantagruel" by F. Rabelais, and then for "The Divine Comedy" by D. Alighieri, the artist became a leading illustrator of Paris. Soon he makes a series of works for the novel by M. de Cervantes "Don Quixote", which inspired him to travel through Spain. And at about the same time takes up illustrations for "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" by R. Raspe, reflecting the wit and love of the hero to improvisation. This book is intended to show how diverse was the style of the artist and how accurately he reflected the characters of the characters of great works, which are given here in abbreviations.
