The first part of the second volume of The Cambridge Ancient History is devoted to the historical development of the Near East and the Aegean from approximately 1800 to 1380 BCE. The book includes sections on Mesopotamia, Egypt, Iran, Syria and Palestine, Anatolia, Balkan Greece, and the Aegean Islands, each written by a specialist in the respective region. Such diverse material required the combined efforts of representatives from various disciplines in the Russian translation: a team of translators was formed, including Assyriologists, Egyptologists, and classicists, who endeavored to introduce the necessary clarifications reflecting the changes in scholarly knowledge that have occurred since the publication of the English original.
