The first part of the second volume of the Cambridge History of the Ancient World is devoted to the historical development of the Near East and Aegean in the period from about 1800 to 1380 B.C. The book includes sections on Mesopotamia, Egypt, Iran, Syria and Palestine, Anatolia, Balkan Greece, and the Aegean islands, each of which was written by a specialist in the respective region. Such heterogeneous material required the combined efforts of representatives of different disciplines to work on the Russian translation: a team of translators was formed, including Assyriologists, Egyptologists, and anticologists, who tried to make the necessary clarifications, reflecting the changes in the scope of scientific knowledge that have occurred since the original English version was published.
