Microhistory aims to interpret human behavior in circumstances dictated by power. Its goal is to see the individual as an actor capable of influencing the course of events and realizing his involvement in them. Thus, this direction of historical science opposes the intellectual tradition in which the individual is understood as part of a certain "mass of people", as a passive object rather than a subject of the historical process. The almanac "Kazus", founded in 1996 by the brilliant historian-medievalist Yuri Lvovich Bessmertny and arousing great interest in the scientific community, was the first and for a long time remained the only platform for the development of microhistory in Russia. The first part of this anthology introduces the reader to the texts on theory that gave an impetus to the "casusm" trend in contemporary Russian historiography, and the second part - to the studies printed in the first five issues of the almanac. These works help to trace how the methodological principles formulated by Y. L. Bessmertny and other authors are being applied and developed. Bessmertny and other authors of "Kazus". The book will be the beginning of a new project of the "UFO" publishing house devoted to microhistorical research.
