This book, a martyrology, contains over 11,000 biographical profiles of officers (from A to Z) awarded the Order of St. George and the St. George Arms during World War I—the Cavaliers of St. George. In preparing this publication, the authors—M. Yu. Klepov and D. V. Shchukin—set out to find the "last trace" of these heroic officers, i.e., their burial sites, which turned out to be in more than 70 countries across Europe, Asia, America, Africa, and Australia.
Correspondence was maintained with compatriots living abroad, and numerous trips were made, primarily to Europe and Russia. The authors personally restored and renovated graves, memorial signs, and plaques. At the authors' instigation, dozens of graves of our heroes were also found and restored by local Russian diasporas in several countries (Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Argentina, Chile, etc.).
This book is the result of years of research by the authors, with the invaluable assistance of both the descendants of the heroic officers and numerous caring individuals around the world.
This book is intended for historians and anyone interested in Russian history.
