According to the author, each of us has borderline ways of reacting, but for some of us they are deeply hidden, and for some of us life as such is stressful and therefore these ways turn into "borderline personality organization". Psychiatrists and psychoanalysts place "borderlines" between neurotics (conventionally mentally healthy people) and psychotics (mentally unhealthy people). The author's task is to understand the qualitative features of the structure of the psyche of such people. As in all editions of this series, the first part of the book is devoted to phenomenology: analysis of conditions in which such features of psyche are formed, ways of dealing with "borderline" with himself, with others, with the world (though, unlike previous books of the series, in the form of a work of fiction). The second part describes the peculiarities of psychotherapeutic assistance to such clients.
