The Canon of St. Andrew of Crete is read twice during Lent. The first time it is read in parts at the very beginning of Lent - on the evening of the first week from Monday to Thursday. The second time the canon, supplemented by the canon and life of St. Mary of Egypt, is read in full at the service called the Standing of Mary. It takes place on the evening of Wednesday of the fifth week of Lent. On the evening of Great Thursday during Passion Week, a service is held with the reading of the 12 Passion Gospels, i.e. excerpts from the Gospels dedicated to the earthly sufferings of the Savior. The Passion service is performed 4 times (according to the number of evangelists) during Lent - on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays. At this service, chapters of the Gospels dedicated to the sufferings of the Lord are also read.
